About the role:

We are seeking a hands-on Chef Manager to lead the catering operation at our university residence in Bedford Park. This dynamic role involves overseeing the daily food service for 200+ university students, managing a dedicated team, and delivering high-quality, innovative meals while ensuring excellence in service.

This role is diverse, fast-paced, and rewarding. It is ideal for a hospitality professional with a strong background in hands-on cooking and management, particularly in the education sector.

Roster: Monday to Friday 11:00 am to 7:30 pm

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver an outstanding culinary experience for students through innovative, high-quality meals
  • Supervise, lead, and manage the catering team, including rostering
  • Liaise with clients for function planning and costs
  • Design and implement menus that cater to a range of dietary and cultural needs, ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
  • Oversee food service operations, maintaining exceptional quality and consistency
  • Manage budgets, including labour and food costs, stock control, and financial reporting
  • Build and nurture relationships with residents, staff, clients, and management
  • Ensure strict adherence to Food Safety, HACCP, and WHS principles, including timely and accurate completion of all documentation

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential criteria:

  • Proven track record in managing large, multifaceted catering operations
  • Trade-qualified Chef with exceptional culinary skills
  • Food Safety Supervisor certification
  • Passion for creating great food and delivering outstanding customer service
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with various stakeholders
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Food Safety standards and procedures
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team
  • A commitment to personal hygiene, presentation, and professionalism
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate & a valid Driver’s Licence
